Messy art play is a form of creative play that provides children with many benefits within their learning and development whilst being free to have fun!

·      Fosters creativity, imagination and experimentation
Through exploring ways in which materials can be utilised outside of their intended purpose, making their own discoveries, stimulating curiosity and further developing their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.  

·      Encourages and supports physical development
As children develop understanding of their body and spatial awareness whilst strengthening muscle control.  Activities are designed to stimulate large and small muscle group activation whilst the hands on play encourages children to develop the tools and skills necessary for fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination.

·      Encourages communication and language development
As children learn skills to verbally and non verbally share their ideas and discoveries with those around them, as they think through their actions and the best way to express meaning within their experiences.

·      Supports emotional and social development
As children learn to share tools and space and collaborate with others throughout their discoveries and experiences. Messy Art play is less structured than other types of activity, encouraging children to practice showing respect for others, reading and recognising social cues, empathy and the importance in taking turns.

·      Practices focus, problem solving and supports cognitive development
Through the use of high concentration levels when engaging in messy art play. As children  explore objects and their potential uses, develop critically thinking skills to understand cause and effect, engage all their senses to think through and understand discoveries and how to communicate them.
